Rules note for the Major Division

In Little League Majors (league age 10-12), leadoffs are not legal: under Rule 7.13 a runner may not leave the base until the pitched ball reaches the batter, and balks are not called in this division. So in this guide the "lead" is really timing your legal break, and the "read" is the pitcher's release and the ball in the dirt rather than a pickoff move off an established lead. In Majors there are no pickoff moves. The runner has no pre-pitch lead to protect, so there is no conventional pitcher move for him to read or recover from. He still has to be able to get back: once he has legally left, the catcher can snap a throw behind him after the pitch, and a runner who drifts too far on the secondary gets tagged. Where a technique only applies once leadoffs become legal (Intermediate 50/70 and up, league age 13+), it lives in the blue Alternative Considerations boxes.
